Coniston Hall Campsite

Right on the western shore of Coniston Water. ~1 mile walk to the village for pubs, shops & fish and chips.

~£15/night per person. 3 nights = ~£45 each. Cash only on arrival — bring a £20 key card deposit too.

Swimming

Direct lake access from the campsite shoreline with its own jetty. Expect ~13°C in early June — invigorating!

BBQ Rules

BBQs allowed — must be small, contained, raised off the grass & out by 11pm. Disposable BBQs sold on-site.

Monday 1st June

Travel Day — Getting There 🚆

11:30am

Ash & Raf finish exam — pack up and leave Egham

12:30pm

Egham → London Waterloo (SWR, ~40 min) then walk/tube to Euston

2:40pm 🚆

London Euston → Oxenholme (Avanti West Coast, 3h 43m direct)

6:23pm

Oxenholme → Windermere branch (~19 min), then 505 bus to Coniston (~60 min)

~8:00pm 🏕️

Arrive Coniston Hall — pitch tents, grab drinks from on-site shop

Tuesday 2nd June

Hike Day 🥾

Morning

Lazy start. Swim in Coniston Water directly off the campsite shore.

Afternoon

Old Man of Coniston — 803m summit, ~4–5 hr round trip. Jim's done it before.

Evening

Disposable BBQ at camp, then pub dinner in Coniston village. Drinks back by 11pm.

💡 Tarn Hows optional: Jim recommends it — a high-altitude lake walk with incredible views, though it's a steep climb. Good alternative if knees are feeling sketchy after the big hike.

Wednesday 3rd June

Lake Day 🏊

Morning — Lake Swimming

Slow start. Swim in Coniston Water from the jetty. Kayak or paddleboard hire available nearby.

Lunch — Village

Fish & chips in Coniston village. Up north prices — expect ~£8–10 a head. Way cheaper than London.

Afternoon — Explore

Village explore, browse local shops. Or a gentler walk around the lake shoreline path.

Evening — Final BBQ

Last big BBQ night at camp. Stock up on supplies from the on-site shop or the village Spar beforehand.

Thursday 4th June

Home Day 🚆

8:00am

Pack up camp — checkout by 11:00am sharp. Pack tents the night before to make this easier.

10:53am 🚌

Bus 505: Coniston → Windermere (arrives 11:49am). Don't miss it — next one is ~2 hrs later.

~12:10pm

Windermere → Oxenholme branch (~20 min), connect to main line

11:39am 🚆

Oxenholme → London Euston (Avanti, arrives 3:40pm)

~4:20pm 🏠

Back in Egham — full evening to recover before Summer Ball on the 5th 🎉
